Since moving to California, my husband and I have been absolutely thrilled to experience what this magnificent state has to offer – the gold rush, the world-famous vineyards, the Golden Bridge (of course!), and the warm sunny beaches, just to name a few. While I share my husband’s excitement over the state’s national parks, I was also simply ecstatic to be near a coast and soak a plenty of sunshine. After the trip to the Sierras and our recent encounter with the giant sequoias at Placer County Sequoia Grove, we were inspired for a coastal trip to the north and see the grandeur of the redwood trees ourselves.
US HIGHWAY 20
It was hard to contain our excitement during our 6-hour drive towards the Redwood National Park. The perfect balance of crisp air and warm sunshine made me extra enthused. There was nothing much to see driving off US Highway 65, but Highway 20 was beautiful! It was just the perfect time of the year to see California when the hills are carpeted in freshly grown green grass and the fields are accentuated with colorful and bright wild flowers. It felt like we were in a movie set.

US HIGHWAY 101
One of the million other California’s pride is Highway 101. My only point of reference about this ultra famous coastal highway is Hollywood movies. I had to admit, I felt a great sense of inner joy being on this famous highway. Who doesn’t? The coastal US Highway 101 is truly beautiful, even more beautiful than how I remember them in movies. I can only imagine how amazing it will be driving even further south along this coastal highway!

WILSON CREEK BEACH
We arrived at our hotel just in time for dusk and before we decided to call it a day, we managed to sneak to Wilson Creek Beach for a breathtaking sunset show. I have always imagined this part of the world to be beautiful, but it has definitely exceeded my high expectation. Sitting on drift woods with my husband beside me as we watch the sun set on the horizon of the Pacific Ocean together was a moment engraved forever in my memories. It was equally peaceful as it was romantic.
This is how I imagined growing old together would be.
